Ireland Imps Pairs reels in a large trout ..Results April 8th

Last night in the Ireland Imps Pairs we has plenty of action and noise and some wool.
So what happens when you run out of time in the Ireland Imp Pairs. Well a simple message saying "Board 6" will suffice. However normally the red mist descends and all sorts of sob stories start emerging. For example we have board 6 and two reasonable bridge players lose their sense of reason. One indicates he will never play Ireland Imp pairs again. Thats no problem as we often have too many anyway so we brought him to the airport and sent him on his way.
Board 6
So we have a 6S contract and any decent player has a look and sees 2 possible losers in the minor suits. So declarer takes off and plays off 6 tricks arriving at this position

Now its up to Galligan the director to examine the situation and come up with a reasonable score.
A quick glance at all 4 hands and Galligan sees 12 tricks. However its not that simple. Galligan is a stronger player than most in this event so we got to figure out a fair score.
Meanwhile North and South are firing messages about their 6S-1 that declarer failed to make and they both indicate that declarer played slow on purpose to avoid the down 1. How these 2 can know the reason for the unfinished board is beyond me. For me it jumps off the screen as play 2 more spades and ruff a heart leaving East on play with Qx Qx in the minors ..club club ..and viola 12 tricks ...so how in the world are these 2 relatively good players so angry and adamant that its 6S-1.
I decide that South might or might not make 6S so I adjust to average plus each. More hell breaks loose from North South both. I offer a 50 euro indication that making 6S is plausible but North South are adamant but no sign of any 50 euro. Result goes in as A+A+ but NS extremely unhappy. Eventually West reluctantly indicates acceptance of my ruling. West computer crashes on Board 14 and one understands that. In this current world situation one needs to understand many things can cause play to slow but one cannot put a declarer down in a cold contract just because two players cannot see the play for some reason. A+ to NS means there was a piece of 6S down plus if the slow play accusation is correct. A+ is EW is they might have made 6S or who knows. This is why all I need is a simple message .. Board 6 eamon please or Board 6. No sob stories or ranting or accusations. I mean its not like anyone coined your car.

A good win for the recently struggling Dave Terry ...maybe he has found the decent partner.

In session 2 one notes the presence of Kindereile in 3rd place. Does the bridge world need another Kinder. Anyway the 2 intermediates who expected to get killed managed 3rd place after failing to gain entry to Fearghals intermediate competition. They were just pipped out of 2nd place by the newly christened Lion Bar.. Some players from the Kitkat team of bridge ..

had some diatribe with Big Roar .... and wondered if Big Roar was a Lion Bar.

Meanwhile we wonder if Big Roar will produce from his magicians hat
"The Dublin International Summer Bridge Congress " when the virus is gone.
Finally we hook the large trout on a 3 inch fly tied in Donegal. Looks like a possible grand slam in diamonds but the 4-0 trump break slows this down a little. Then we has West stopping the video to take a video call .. instead of bidding 6D and then answering the video call. Anyway distracted by all the shenanigans going on around him ...apparently while doing punctuation corrections and spelling repairs to a lettler from Boris Johnson ...the mighty garve failed in 6D assisted by roaring defence from the Lion Bar. Happily zaczaczac being too busy with her video call failed to notice the debacle.
They used to say .. Homer nods but never the garve. However before ye all get brave ...the garve is a very serious opponent ...some say the 3rd best bridge player in Britain ... only behind Forrester and Robson... a fine accolade indeed ..
The poor garve had another misfortune when after bidding 7NT and requiring AKQTxxx opposite x to come in for 7 tricks he hit a 4-1 spade break and could hardly be expected to take the 50% finesse ahead of the near 70% 3-2 spade break.
